Greenfield Sunset Run 2010

19 04 2010

About two weeks after we registered for the NatGeo Earth Day Run, I and my buddy decided to register for another run – this time at a different time schedule, at sunset, as all running events happen in the early morning where one would really sacrifice to wake up earlier.

The Greenfield City Sunset Run 2010 will be held on April 24, Saturday at Greenfield, Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Event categories include 500m Dash (kids), 3K, 5K, 10K and 21K.  Registration is from March 22 to April 17.  For more details or questions, please call (632) 703-1736 or visit http://www.greenfield.com.ph/ and the official run website at http://finishline.ph/.

I am finally running!

27 03 2010

I had finally found a running buddy!  After participating in our company’s fun run in September of last year, I developed an interest to join at least one benefit run (before I leave), the Century Tuna Superbods 2010 in particular, so I started inviting and convincing a few active colleagues and friends up to the last day of registration but no one became as interested.   I even posted to my FB account my interest in benefit runs and a high school mate reacted and so emailed me about the Book Run she was joining (her first run)  on January 31.   Gosh! It was already January 27.  I told her that had I known earlier that she was joining I would have registered, too.  So I missed that.

Come February 21, the Century Tuna Superbods Run day, I wasn’t there but two of my co-choir members participated.  They were convincing me to register until the last day.  One even got the registration form for me.  Unfortunately these are young guys in their early 20s that I was, honestly, not quite comfortable being with during my first running event.

I learned later that my high school mate joined again when I saw her photos posted to here FB account.  My envy increased… more and more as I see more photos of her other runs.  I gave up convincing my colleagues and friends until one day…

One friend who started to regularly hit the gym, and who previously showed no interest in benefit runs, all of a sudden mentioned running to me.  She was sort of enlightened by her gym instructor.  Then last Wednesday, she called up to mention this Earth Day Run at the Mall of Asia so I researched on it.  I called her back to tell the details so it’s the National Geographic Earth Day Run to be held on April 18, 2010 at the Mall of Asia.  So we agreed to register online the following day.

So it’s official!  I am finally running and this morning was our warm-up training.  She felt excited as we dragged our feet and jogged along the grounds of Southmall.   But, there’s no one more excited with the world-famous National Geographic Channel being involved in this event than… I.  It’s my first real run, don’t you forget.  Wink!

Live Food Lecture by Cheloy Ignacio

22 02 2010

Ms. Cheloy Ignacio, the renowned raw foodist, is now back from the US.  I got her email yesterday informing that she will be holding a food lecture this weekend.   I was not sure if this is the Living on Live Food Lecture explained in her site (Rawfood Philippines) so I called her up.  So it is the Live Food Lecture, which according to her lasts for 6 hours but may extend depending on the queries.  I told her that I’m trying to invite some friends.  I hope I could convince one.

The package, which costs Php10,000, is a combination of lectures and actual recipe preparations so a participant is required to come on empty stomach.

Apple Cider Vinegar: The Natural Acne Cure

25 11 2009

As to the benefits of apple cider vinegar (ACV), I contented myself with the short literature on the label of Bragg Organic ACV.  A few minutes ago, however, curiosity got the better of me. “How is an apple made into cider vinegar?” I searched the web and stumbled upon a number of sites which say “Apple Cider Vinegar Acne Treatment.  Oh! That is something new to me.  Why didn’t I encounter that before?

So here what they say…

Vinegar is produced by fermentation of vegetables, fruits or grains. It is a natural process in which the food molecules are broken down with the help of yeast and bacteria. In the initial stage, the sugar present in the food gets converted into alcohol, and in the later stage, the fermentation of alcohol leads to formation of vinegar.

Due to its natural processing, apple cider vinegar contains more enzymes and mineral that any other vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is rich in antioxidants like vitamin A, Vitamin C, beta carotene, three different forms of vitamin B, bioflavonoids, etc. It also contains useful minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, copper, iron, etc. All these ingredients help it in fighting bacteria and reducing inflammation.

So ACV may be used either as a skin toner or as a tonic drink to fight acne.  As a skin toner, 2 tablespoons of ACV must be diluted with an ounce of water.  Dab a cotton into the mixture and apply on the spot or pour a half cup of ACV into a basin of warm water then splash this on the face.  This can be done twice a day to achieve the best results.  As a health tonic, the usual proportion is 2 tablespoons of ACV to a cup of water.  Honey may be added to improve the taste.  This can be taken up to three times a day – upon rising on empty stomach, mid-morning and mid-afternoon.  It should be noted, however, that the acid content of the vinegar may cause harm to the teeth enamel so it is advisable that you rinse your mouth thoroughly.

Health experts suggest that we select a good quality ACV made of organic apples.  I personally recommend the brand Bragg which can be purchased at Healthy Options, SM Supermarket and Makati Supermarket.

Oh My Goolai!

16 10 2009

At past 10 a.m., I was considering either a Starbuck’s Tomato, Basil and Mozarella Bagel or some gourmet sandwich from The Sandwich Guy for my lunch after having two full bowls of goto (beef stripe congee) and tokwa’t baboy (fried tofu and pork) at breakfast.  But, I still feel full and bloated a little before lunchtime so I thought a salad meal was a better choice.  I checked on Petron’s Treats across my office building for the available ready-to-eat salad items and I got this Goolai.  I opted for the mixed greens with chicken, peaches, grapes, kiwi and honey almonds in poppyseed vinaigrette over the one with creamy dressing.  The dressing was good, not sour for a vinaigrette, a bit tangy.  It was a good choice.

Goolai is really another good option for the salad lovers.  It is reasonably priced at Php146 considering that it is prepared fresh daily by the Agri-Growers Multi-Purpose Cooperative.  A pack, which expires after 2 days, contains about 150 grams of lettuce and 200 grams of various toppings ranging from chicken, fresh fruits in season and nuts.  The vegetables are grown hydroponically – using carefully measured water instead of soil – to prevent bacteria and pesticide contamination.*

Check out this salad at Petron’s Treats, Crossings and Robinson’s Supermarkets.

Missing Yoga

12 10 2009

Yoga

Last Friday, I happened to speak with a co-participant in a yoga class.  She has been noticing my absence co’z it has been really a while.  Let me count… I think I was able to attend about five times only since January.  I really love yoga but I just couldn’t squeeze it into my schedule these days.  If I fail to attend the aerobics class and go to the gym on Monday, my Tuesday yoga suffers.  That’s basically the reason aside from the really bad weather.

I’m hopeful that starting tomorrow, I’ll be able to join the class.  There are going to be a lot of “catching ups” by then on new poses and, most importantly, on flexibility.

Fun Run and Me…

14 09 2009

Fun Run

I and a number of colleagues had planned to join the Fun Run last year but two days before the deadline, our Corporate Affairs Dept. had stopped accepting participants due to quota.

Six (6) from our department had already submitted the registration form. So this year, looks like we would be able to participate in this annual event unless we miss the registration at 7:30 am. on that day.  This will really be fun and exciting as my friends in the other department are joining, too.  We agreed that this will only be for fun and not for competition but, of course, who doesn’t want to win even the consolation prices? I’m  really excited about it co’z this will be my first time to really run.  I told myself, “I wanna experience it, once and for all, before I leave our company.”

Regular attendance to the company’s physical fitness programs will not suffice.  One must have a clearance from our Medical Unit to be allowed to join.

So the 2-km Fun Run, which starts at 9:00 a.m., is part of the Bank’s celebration of the 2009 Araw ng mga Kawani (Employees’ Day) on September 18.   The route will include portions of Makati Avenue, Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue and Paseo de Roxas.

Now, let’s start stretching those muscles esp. our lower bodies to increase flexibility and reduce injuries.  I think our gym will then be crowded starting today.  Go,go,go….
